DESCRIPTION:Open to ages 10 and up. Volunteers support habitat restoration by removing non-native plants\, clearing vegetation\, and planting native species to improve conditions for local wildlife such as birds\, butterflies\, and pollinators. Events take place on select Saturdays from 8:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. All tools are provided\, but volunteers should come prepared to work outdoors. Activities may be canceled due to bad weather. \n\nSchool Service Credits – Students can earn school service credits by registering for Saturday Restoration events. No walk-ins or late arrivals allowed. Come ready to work—wear closed-toe shoes and leave electronics at home.\nAge Requirement – Open to ages 10 and up. Participants 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. All minors (under 18) must bring signed consent and waiver forms from a parent or legal guardian.\n\nOnline registration is required. Complete and submit the new SHORT-TERM volunteer form from the City of Torrance. \nRegister Here

DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Discovery Zone at Madrona Marsh — a hands-on space where young explorers can learn about nature through play\, curiosity\, and discovery! Kids can touch\, observe\, and investigate real objects from the marsh\, including feathers\, seeds\, animal tracks\, shells\, and plant samples. Interactive displays and simple science activities help children learn how plants and animals survive\, why wetlands are important\, and how people can help protect the environment. \nWhether you’re looking through a magnifier\, matching animal footprints\, or building a food web\, the Discovery Zone encourages questions\, creativity\, and respect for wildlife. It’s a fun way for kids of all ages to connect with nature and become future environmental stewards.

SUMMARY:Habitat Restoration
DESCRIPTION:Open to ages 10 and up. Volunteers support habitat restoration by removing non-native plants\, clearing vegetation\, and planting native species to improve conditions for local wildlife such as birds\, butterflies\, and pollinators. Events take place on select Saturdays from 8:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. All tools are provided\, but volunteers should come prepared to work outdoors. Activities may be canceled due to bad weather. \n\nSchool Service Credits – Students can earn school service credits by registering for Saturday Restoration events. No walk-ins or late arrivals allowed. Come ready to work—wear closed-toe shoes and leave electronics at home.\nAge Requirement – Open to ages 10 and up. Participants 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. All minors (under 18) must bring signed consent and waiver forms from a parent or legal guardian.\n\nOnline registration is required. DESCRIPTION:Friday Fun is a hands-on program for preschoolers\, age 3-6\, and their parents or guardians. The program is offered at no charge every Friday. The program will incorporate story time\, science\, art\, and a tour emphasizing the chosen topic. \n\n\n\nSome weeks\, there will also be potting or other activities. The topics emphasize respect for all living things and prepare the children (and parents) to be good stewards of the planet. \n\n\n\nPre-registration is required. \n\n\n\nRegistration for the Friday event begins on Tuesday at 10:00 am of the same week.Call the Nature Center to register at (310)782-3989. \n\n\n\nSpace is limited to the first 20 people who sign up \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
