About the ARC Program

This page content is under development.

The Madrona Marsh ARC program (Advanced Restoration Crew) is a dedicated volunteer initiative that supports the ongoing restoration and stewardship of the Madrona Marsh Preserve & Nature Center in Torrance, California. As an extension of the Marsh’s broader habitat restoration and community engagement efforts, ARC members work closely with staff and regular volunteers during scheduled habitat restoration sessions, especially on Saturdays, helping with tasks such as removing non-native plants, planting native species, clearing trails, and supervising student volunteers. This hands-on program not only contributes to the long-term ecological health of one of Southern California’s last remaining vernal wetlands but also fosters leadership, environmental awareness, and community involvement among participants. ARC volunteers often serve as experienced stewards in the field, guiding and supporting other volunteers while gaining deeper insight into wetland ecology, conservation practices, and environmental education. Through ARC, participants build practical restoration skills, connect with nature, and help preserve the rich biodiversity of the Madrona Marsh, which provides habitat for hundreds of bird species, amphibians, insects, and native plants within an urban setting. The program exemplifies Madrona Marsh’s mission to promote a sustainable relationship between people and the natural world.
